Is this Amateur Night?

Oh wait sorry, the movie was called Prom Night my bad. Ever heard of it, yeah the 80's thriller remade with Britney Snow and a slew of teenage actors.. May the slaughter begin.

Point #1: Horror..eh.. Thriller..eh.. bad thriller? yeah.
So this movie is basically the story of a girl whos family is killed by (her teacher) a killer (SHOCKING) and she witnesses it all. He goes to an insane asylum for 3 years. HE BREAKS OUT. 3 days before the school Prom. Which she is at when the police alert her parents (Wait sorry as Kristina pointed out its her aunt and uncle.) I don't know how but he knows exactly the hotel they're at and the exact date of prom. he continues to track her down in the hotel kill off her friends then escape capture to follow her home! Horror? Not so much we see him kill about.. 3 people. Wait..4? Well most of them are the classic camera goes to next scene as the gruesome deed is done. The closest gore is the blood splatter on a plastic tarp. Thriller? Well cheap thrills are scatter with people popping up behind her and lamps.. So what is it? I'd say a cheap thrill ride.

Point #2: Acting? HA.
I don't know how but, they managed to get some not really bad but not so gifted actors in this film. Including girl who I don't believe at all. And lots of WOW. YOU'RE STUPID characters. (but thats more the writers fault) The most believable part was were her BF (bestfriend) figures out who the sketch in the elevator is (her stalker) and runs out of the near-sex experience with her boyfriend. It was as close as we were gonna get to genuine. And the killer? I think he says about 10 lines. Maybe.. is "Donna we'll be together forever" a line if it's said about 7,000 times?

Point#3: The audience.
The local movie theater, though 10 minutes away, is somehow in my town which on a map extend into oblivion somehow. Its actually really surprising to most town kids. But, the movies.. on a Saturday.. at 8 are mostly compelled of.. dare I say it.. African American people. And my town in maybe .6% black. We noticed this in line..at the snack bar.. and the theater. It's not that we (Moe and Kristina) find this bad its just they're more..involved in the movie. By that I mean they often yell "AWWWW HE'S GONNA GET YOU" or to their kids "WATCH THE MOVIE" it's usually annoying cause the movie is best less commentary. But today (last week) we we're all thinking it one collaborative mind. We yelled, laughed, sighed, and went OMG! AHHHHH AGAIN? MAN.. together. The best though was a girl Ali I know who often semi-overreacted and often screamed at the top of her lungs for 30 seconds at a time.

Overall it's one of the weaker scary movies I've seen it goes up there with One Missed Call. So if you enjoy bad teen acting and semi-surprises see this movie. But to a 14 year-old its a yawn. but to Meghan my sister its "The scariest movie I've ever seen." Case Closed.

KCTW

P.S. This movie is easily make-funable
